José (‘Joel’) De Ocampo, M.D.
Dr. Jose ( Joel ) De Ocampo is a medical doctor of neurology at Scottsdale Neurological Consultants. He pursued his medical degree at De La Salle University- College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines before completing a year of Internal Medicine Residency at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to coming to Scottsdale, AZ, he was the Medical Director the Sleep Lab Oaktree Medical Centre in South Carolina where he also spent 5 years as an attending neurologist practicing Pediatric and Adult General Neurology.
His career in Neurology began at Allegheny General University Hospital (formerly Hahneman University) where he also served as Chief Resident of Neurology. He went on to finish an additional year of fellowship in Vascular Neurology specializing in Stroke disorders and interpretations of Carotid Doppler and Transcranial Dopplers Ultrasonography. He subsequently underwent further fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology in Epilepsy and Neuromuscular Disorders at the Medical University of South Carolina and participitated in trials for Multiple Sclerosis while doing his fellowship. He also finished a one year fellowship at the Sleep Disorders Fellowship training program at the Cleveland Clinic Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Neurology, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Clinic Neurophysiology, and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine. He is Board Eligible for the American Board of Internal Medicine Vascular Medicine Boards and plans to take this soon. He took the American Board of Medical Specialties Sleep Medicine Boards, which was offered for the first time in November, 2007 (awaiting results). Dr. De Ocampo has lectured extensively on a variety of topics ranging from sleep disorders, sleep apnea, insomnia, Alzheimer’s disease, migraine, Parkinson’s disease and Stroke disorders. He has presented posters and case studies at several national meetings and has published in several peer-reviewed sources.
Dr. De Ocampo interests include martial arts of which he is a black belt in the mixed martial arts discipline of Shorindokai. He is also the organizer and Director of Independence National Bank in Greenville, SC, and is a major shareholder in a hotel chain in China (Hotel Carolina). He has real estate ventures in Charleston, SC. He has a wife who is a practicing Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician in Scottsdale, AZ and has 2 boys.
